If you live in the north with the recent blistering cold, then these rare rolls may be somewhat familiar to you, but regardless of where you are they're kinda cool to see when the combined elements fall just right to allow natures art to take form. They are considered somewhat of a weather phenomenon and can range from a couple inches in size to several feet across, but a foot in length has been referred to as a very common size .
Even for those of us that do live where the arctic breeze has drifted in dropping significantly below zero, these rolls are not commonly seen with every winter season and snowfall. After a few inches of snow falls then the surface slightly freezes, a light snow must then again fall accompanied by heavy winds to form these log type rolls. These are usually seen in fields somewhat putting you in mind of the round bails of hay left in the fields when farmers harvest their hay. It's unique to see mother-natures rare artful forms, so I thought I'd forward a couple of pictures and a little trivia regarding mother natures personal snowballs when she gathers all the right pieces and the artwork that transforms.
